The short verdict: choose PhantomBuster if your job is data operations — scraping search results, group members or post engagers at scale and piping them into spreadsheets, APIs or a data warehouse. It is genuinely strong at that. Choose Linkydy if your job is talking to prospects: collecting the right people, finding their email and phone, sending personalized invites, and tracking every follow-up in a real CRM — without your session cookie ever leaving your machine.

The session cookie problem
To run a LinkedIn phantom, you export your li_at session cookie from your browser and paste it into PhantomBuster's cloud. Think about what that cookie is: a bearer key to your logged-in LinkedIn account. Once it's on someone else's servers, your account is being operated from IPs that aren't yours, and a copy of your key exists outside your control. LinkedIn also rotates and invalidates sessions on its own schedule, so cookie-based automations break silently until you re-export — a maintenance chore that never ends.
Linkydy's design removes the entire category of problem: the extension acts inside the session already open in your browser. No cookie export, no password, no remote IPs. The honest cost is that actions run while your browser is open — which, given LinkedIn's weekly invite caps of roughly 100–200, restricts you far less than it sounds. The full risk breakdown lives in is LinkedIn automation safe?.
Built for developers, priced by runtime
PhantomBuster is honest about its audience: people comfortable wiring phantoms together, mapping spreadsheet columns, and handling JSON outputs. Setup is closer to configuring a data pipeline than installing an app. Pricing follows the same logic — plans from about $69/month buy execution hours plus slots and credits. For burst scraping projects, paying by runtime is fair. For daily outreach, it means your subscription meters hours consumed, not prospects reached.
Linkydy is installed from the Chrome Web Store, signed into with an email, and working inside five minutes — free credits, no card. Collection happens where you already search: LinkedIn people search and Sales Navigator.
A scraper's output vs a CRM's memory
PhantomBuster's end product is a file or an API payload. That's perfect when the next stop is a data warehouse — and useless when the next stop is a conversation. There are no statuses, no notes, no "replied — follow up after their launch" anywhere in the product.
Linkydy's end product is a worked pipeline: every lead card holds status, notes, enrichment results and action history, and CSV export carries the whole picture (name, title, company, URL, email, phone, status) into any other tool. The two products can even cooperate: teams doing heavy data collection sometimes scrape with PhantomBuster, then import target URL lists into Linkydy via CSV for enrichment and outreach.
The AI-agent difference
Ironically for the more technical product, PhantomBuster has no AI-agent integration. Linkydy ships its own MCP server: connect Claude, ChatGPT, Grok or Cursor and describe the outcome — "find 20 heads of sales in Berlin, enrich, and queue personalized invites" — instead of assembling phantom chains. The extension enforces pacing and daily caps no matter what the agent asks. Two-minute setup on the MCP page; if you're evaluating other cloud tools too, see Linkydy vs Expandi.
When PhantomBuster is still the right call
Credit where due: if you need to pull 5,000 event attendees into a warehouse, monitor who engages with a competitor's posts, or enrich a market-mapping spreadsheet across several platforms at once, PhantomBuster's phantom library is the stronger instrument — that's a data project, not outreach. Where it stops being the right call is the moment a human relationship starts: the first personalized invite, the reply you need to remember, the follow-up in three weeks. That half of the job needs lead cards, statuses and enforced pacing — which is the half Linkydy was built for, in your own browser, starting free.
